Factors to be considered while purchasing Degreasing Chemical for the Metal Pretreatment :
There are a number of factors that to be considered before purchasing Degreaser.
- Flammability: Degreaser has generally flammable Alcohols and Hydrocarbon Solvents. They can be cheap and effective but are dangerous around hot surfaces or open flame if proper ventilation is not available. Non Flammable Degreasers are safe to use but are often more expensive.Some Non Flammable Degreasing Chemicals contain Hazardous solvent like Perchloroethylene, trichloroethylene or n-propyl bromide. These Solvents make Cleaners very Toxic.
- Dielectric strength: You must consider the Dielectric strength of the Degreaser before switching on the Electric Equipment before the Solvent has flashed off. Before spraying anything onto the circuit , You Should know the amperage and voltage of the circuits that you are trying to clean. And also you should evaluate the suitability of any cleaner in your application. Dielectric strength is the maximum electrical strength of the material that can withstand before its insulating properties break down. The higher the dielectric strength, the less likely it will break down and prevent electricity from flowing through it.
- Plastic / rubber compatibility: Plastic packaging, Plastic components, Rubber gaskets and seals should be cleaned with utmost care. If the degreaser is not suitable to the plastic, it can craze (create small cracks), embrittle, or soften the material. Rubber seals may swell, shrink, or dissolve if a harsh solvent is used . One should always test the Degreaser before using it.
- Toxicity : N-Propyl Bromide (nand evaluate the suitability of any cleaner in your application. PB), Trichloroethylene (TCE) and Perchloroethylene (Perc) are highly toxic chemicals normally used in nonflammable degreasing Chemical.Workers suffer major health effects if they are exposed to high levels of these chemicals.
